About
Greetings Everyone - Let's visit the very famous island in Korea - Jeju.
🟡 Words to Inspire you: For Auckland Global Trekkers seeking a blend of adventure and serenity, Jeju Island offers an unforgettable two-week escape. Nestled off South Korea’s southern coast, Jeju is a volcanic gem brimming with dramatic landscapes, rich traditions, and coastal charm.
Start your journey with a hike up Hallasan, South Korea’s highest peak. The trails wind through lush forests and cratered ridgelines, offering panoramic views that rival New Zealand’s own alpine vistas. From there, explore the lava tubes of Manjanggul Cave—an underground marvel shaped by ancient eruptions.
Jeju’s coastlines are equally captivating. Wander the Olle Trails, a network of scenic walking paths that hug the island’s edges. Trail 7, with its turquoise waters and black basalt cliffs, feels like a Korean cousin to Piha’s rugged beauty. Stop by Seongsan Ilchulbong (Sunrise Peak) for a dawn climb that rewards you with golden light spilling over the sea.
Cultural immersion is everywhere. Visit traditional stone villages, sample fresh abalone at local markets, and learn about the haenyeo—Jeju’s legendary female divers whose resilience echoes the spirit of Kiwi adventurers. We will also be visiting the local lady divers museum, on one of our walks. Don’t miss the quirky museums, like the Jeju Folk Village or the Teddy Bear Museum, for a playful twist.
You will get the opportunity to make a Mother of Pearl gift along with a traditional Korean tassel.
Whether you're chasing waterfalls, sipping hallabong tea, or soaking in seaside hot springs, Jeju invites you to slow down and savor. For Global Trekkers, it’s not just a destination—it’s a soulful exploration of nature, heritage, and connection.
There are quite a few free 1/2 days, so you can decide which if any of the museums or local markets that take your fancy.
Duration: April 26th to May 9th (Inclusive) Distance: No more than 17km per day and many free afternoons to explore yourself. Hallasan is the big hard hike - 10 hours, 1200 meters elevation
