About the Event and Club BLK Hiking Club events are intended for Black people only unless otherwise stated due to the limited options that exist for Black people to engage in the outdoors where we can easily see and engage with others who look like us and share our experiences. While we appreciate the work of allies, they are encouraged to join one of the many other hiking groups in the Triangle.
About the Trail Trail: Reedy Creek and Company Mill Loop (

) Length: 8 Miles Elevation change: 439ft Route Type: Loop Attributes: Natural, Unpaved, Pond Difficulty Level: Moderate
Description: Trail has roots and mild elevation changes throughout. Hiking shoes or shoes with ankle support are recommended.
Dogs are not allowed, per park rules.
Preparing for the Event
1.
Hydrate as much as you can in the days leading up to the hike.
2.
Bring snacks and at least 64 ounces of water with you.
3.
Communicate any health concerns the Club should be aware of prior to your attendance by direct messaging one of the Hiking Leaders attending.
4.
Be mindful of others identity and journey.
5.
We are starting earlier than usual.
6.
This hike will be at a challenging pace through the trail (18-20 minutes per mile).
7.
Please ensure your footwear can support you on this hike. Please reach out to a hiking leader if you have questions.
About the Park Located in Wake County 10 miles northwest of downtown Raleigh, William B. Umstead State Park is a cherished retreat from bustling urban life. The park features an extensive network of hiking and multiuse trails, as well as three manmade lakes and their tributaries that are perfect for fishing.
Both park entrances offer picnic shelters, and Crabtree Creek offers camping areas. Group camps and the historic Maple Hill Lodge let visitors experience a rustic overnight experience without typical modern camping amenities.
