About the Club
BLK Hiking Club events are intended for Black people only unless otherwise stated due to the limited options that exist for Black people to engage in the outdoors where we can easily see and engage with others who look like us and share our experiences.
While we appreciate the work of allies, they are encouraged to join one of the many other hiking groups in the Triangle.
About the Mountain Biking Trail
Trail Name: Quartz Loop + Springhouse Loop
Strava (https://www.strava.com/routes/3533455587207713944
)
Length: 8.42 miles
Elevation: 660ft
Route Type: Loop
Attributes: Rock, Roots, Tight tree turns
Difficulty Level: Moderate
Restrooms: One portable toilet. Description: We expect that riders attending this event have a baseline of being comfortable with riding bikes off-road and familiarity with tight and twisting trails, but strong technical skills are not required.
Experienced riders are welcome, but we prioritize good vibes, riding comfortably, and staying together as a group over speed and intensity. Since there are lots of turns we will regroup often and stop and wait for each other as needed to ensure everyone stays together.

About the Park
Brumley Forest Nature Preserve is a conservation-centered cross-country network with more than 17 miles of shared-use natural-surface trail through hardwood forest, stream corridors, and former farm landscape. Most mileage is green or blue, pairing smooth connectors and rolling loops with tighter turns, short dips, and occasional root or rock texture rather than sustained steepness.
The full-system ride is moderately demanding while shorter loop combinations remain approachable. Brumley North is foot-traffic only; mountain biking is limited to Brumley South. Riders must yield to walkers, wear a helmet, avoid e-bikes, and respect TLC closures. Brumley is a good fit for novice-to-intermediate XC riders who value flow, scenery, and flexible distance.
